1993 2/19 Friday
오늘은 다른 어떤 얘기로 복잡하게 만들기 싫다. 정말 이럴수는 없는 거다. 공평하지 못하다. 학교 갔다와서 있다가 용운이가 우리집에 와서 우동 끓여 먹고는 같이 Sam네 집에 갔다. 가는 길에 갑자기 용운이가 뭐가 가장 가지고 싶냐고 물었다. 옷을 필요하다고 말한걸 난 후회할거다. 용운이가 말해 주었다. Florida주로 이사를 가게 되었댄다. 그제서야 눈치를 챘다. 왜 용운이가 이걸 물어보았는지...,
지금 막 눈물이 그쳤다. 정말 싫다. 친구를, 아주 좋은 친구를 잃는다는 건, 특히 용운이 같은 애를 잃는 다는건. 잃는것은 아니지만 다시 보기가 너무 힘들것 같다. 용운이가 곁에 없었다면 지금쯤 난... 어떻게 되어 있을지... 용운이는 정말 좋은 본보기가 되어주었다. 내 마음이 흔들리고 나쁜 쪽으로 이끌릴때마다 항상 도움을 주곤했었는데... 하지만 멀리 떨어져 있다 해도 용운이는 날 계속 붙잡아 줄거다. 왜냐하면 용운이는 계속 열심히 공부를 할거고 틀림없이 훌륭한 사람이 될수 있을테니까.
나중에 떳떳히 용운이를 만날수 있는 길은 나 역시 동등한 위치에 설 그런 조건이 되어야 할테니 열심히 공부를 할거다.
Sam네 집앞까지 우산쓰고 둘이서서 계속 얘기를 했다. 자꾸 눈물이 나오려는걸 간신이 막았다. Alex 가던날도 비가 왔었는데. 용운이도 똑같은 말을 했다. 용운이는 정말 가기 싫댄다. Alex 가던 그 마음을 이해 할수 있댄다. Alex처럼 여기에 남고 싶어 했댄다. 하지만 어쩔수 없이 간댄다. 이걸 쓰면서 왜 자꾸 눈물이 나오는지 모르겠다. 언젠가 셋이 같이 만날 날이 있겠지... 용운이 같이 좋은 친구는 다시는 다시는 찾지 못할거다 Alex같은 친구 역시. "good people are hard to forget." Alex가 했던 말이다. 아직 가지도 않았는데 이런다. 이젠 바뀔 생각이다. 장난도 치지 않을 거고, 시간도 헛되게 보내지 않을련다. 부끄럽지 않은 친구로 남아주고 싶다. 이게 우정이라는 것일까. 아마 사랑이겠지. 친구를 사랑한다는게 이런건지도 모르겠다. 보고 싶을거다. 아까 용운이가 그랬다. 정들면 이별이라고... 하지만 지금은 이렇게 날 위로하고 싶다. - 우리는 만날때 헤어짐을 염려하듯 헤어질때 다시 만날 것을 기약합니다.
KYCC Orientation끝나고 Sam네서 Ghost 보고 용운이 집에 데려다주고 다시 집에 왔다. 'Gas'하고 'Ditto'가 새로 만들어 졌다. 용운이하고 또 한참을 웃었다. '카메라에 맞아봐야 한다', '증폭된다', 'Twenty one', 'taco bell'.... 그 밖에도 웃긴 얘기들이 많았다. 용운이와는 안지는 얼마 안됐어도 참 재미있었는데. 좋은 기분으로 웃으며 이런 얘기들을 할수 있을 그런때가 오길 바란다.

저녁때 선구하고 정국일 보러 병원에 갔었는데 정말 끔찍했다. 정국인 오른팔이 부러지고 이마는 찢어졌다. 선구는 온몸이 부어 있었고 눈을 잘 못 뜨는데다가 목에는 기부스를 했고, 온몸이 붕대에, 허리양 끝엔 칼로 찢은것 같은 상처가 있고 이상한 걸로 떠받혀 있었고 다리는 쇠로 고정시켜놓았다. 우리를 보더니 굉장히 반가운 눈치를 보였다. 나, 효진이, 정국이네 형, 그리고 아리라는 누나. 물을 먹고 싶다는 말을 하려는 노력을 했지만 선구는 말도 못해 우리가 입술을 보고나서 누치채 주었는데 곧 토해내고 난 선구가 불쌍해 울고 말았다. 선구가 입고 있던 옷을 보니 갈기갈기 찢겨 있고, 우린 병원측 허락을 얻어 선구가 입고 있던 옷에서 열쇠를 꺼내어 선구 집에 가서 전화 번호를 찾아 한국가신 선구엄마에게 알리려 했지만 뜻대로 되질 않았다. 선구네 가기전 들린 성당에서 난 계속 선구와 정국이를 위해 기도했다.

Nobody Knows (daremoshiranai)
어느날 담임 선생님께서 교무실로 부르셨다.
"너 오늘 수업끝나고 C군네 좀 가 볼수 있겠니?"
C군은 반에서 조금은 특이한 친구였다. 또래중 가장 작은 편에 속한 그는 착하지만 언제나 부산하고 큰문제는 안일으키지만 말썽장이중 하나였다. 그는 또 자주 준비물이나 숙제, 또는 시험준비가 부족한채 등교를 해서 매 수업마다 혼이 나는 친구였는데 밝고 말을 잘하면서도 특별한 이유없이 반친구들고 잘 어울리지 못하던 친구였다. 성적보다도 진도를 못 따라가는 친구였는데 그떄문에 담임 선생님께서 걱정이 되셨던 모양이였다.
집에 전화나 방문을 하시는게 낳지 않을까 생각 하는 순간 선생님께선, C군은 부모님 없이 여동생과 할머니 그렇게 단 셋이 산다며, 다른 반 아이들에게는 말하지 말고 다녀오라며 당부하셨다. 선생님께서 직접 방문하고 싶지만 손주들을 홀로 키우시는 할머니께 선생님이 방문을 하시면 부담이 되실까 내게 조용히 준비물, 숙제정도만 창겨 달라고 슬쩍 당부해드리고 오라고 하셨다, 마치 내가 걱정이 되서 전해드리듯이.
C군은 이미 선생님께서 이야기를 해놓으신듯 수업이 끝나자 날 기다렸다. 친구를 집으로 데려가는것이 드문듯 떠들어 대던 C군은 살고 있는 집이 아닌 시장으로 날 안내했다. 그제서야 알아 챗지만 C군은 매일 수업이 끝나면 시장을 들려 어린 여동생을 데리러 가는 것이 일과 였다. 재래식 시장에서 붉은 다라에 야채를 얹어놓고 행상을 하시는 할머니에게 인사를 시킬겸 나를 안내하는 것이기도 했다. 이제 막 초등학교를 들어간 여동생은 학교가 끝나면 오빠가 데리러 올때까지 할머니곁에서 기다리고 있는 다고 했다.
장사를 하시는 할머니에게 인사를 드리고 C군이 학교에선 어떠냐는 질문에 짧게 C군이 숙제나 준비물을 자주 빠뜨리고 오지만 착하고 좋은 친구라 말씀드렸던것 같다.
C군과 그의 여동생과 세식구가 살고 있는 집으로 향하며 이런 저런 이야기를 나누다가 난 몇년째 같은 반에 배정되었던 이 친구가 나보다 2살이 어리다는 사실을 처음으로 알게 되었다. 동기들보다 키가 작고 철이없이 부산하고 말썽을 피우던 그는 그저 학년에 비해 나이가 어렸을 뿐이 란걸 깨닳았다. 그가 수업을 힘들어 하고 성적이 뒤쳐지는 이유도 감이 잡힐듯 했다. 반친구 이상으로는 잘알지 못했던 탓에 그동안 학교밖의 그에 대해서 잘 모른채 그저 부산한 친구라고 생각했던내가 웬지 조금은 바보같이 느껴지기도 했다.
그는 어렸을 때 부터 수업이 끝나면 5시반 어린이 방송을 할때까지 밖에서 뛰어 놀곤, 할머니께서 귀가하실 때 까지 TV를 본다고 했다. 저녁을 먹고서야 숙제를 조금하고는 일찍 잠자리에 드시는 할머니에 마추어 잔다고 했다. 대부분의 학생들과는 달리 단순히 학교가 그에 삶에는 전부가 아닌 것에 의아하며 부럽기도 했다.
슬쩍 부모님의 이야기가 궁금해 꺼내보았다. 혹 기분을 상하게 하진 않을까 우려도 했지만 오히려 그는 아무런 꺼리낌없이 아버지가 집을 나가신고 홀로 그와 그의 여동생을 키우시던 어머니마저 생활고를 못이겨 할머니에게 둘을 맏기고는 나가신채 안돌아 오신다는 이야기를 마치 남의 이야기인양 내게 말했다.
철이 없이 보였던 C군이 웬지 다르게 보였던 계기였다.
"내가 그의 입장이였으면 어땠을까?" 한시간이 조금 넘게 걸리는 버스안에선 착찹한 기분을 지울수가 없었다. 늦게 돌아온 내가 어두워 보였는지 저녁상을 차려주시며 어머님께선 캐물으셨다. 내 대답에 학원에 늦었다는 꾸중도 안하시고 오히려 숙제를 일찍끝내고 자라고 하셨다. 난데없이 아버지께 잘하라는 말씀과 함께 C군에게 앞으로 잘해주라는 말씀만 하셨다.
어머님은 일을 하시는 할머니가 아마도 손주를 보시기가 힘에 부치시니 C군을 일찍 학교에 넣으신것 같다며 이런 일이 종종 있다는 말씀을 해 주셨다. 한국에는 자식들을 두고 나가선 돌아오지 않는 부,모들이 꽤 많다고 하셨다.
일본도 크게 다르진 모양이다. 1988년에 실재 있었던 이야기를 바탕으로 만든 2004년도의 영화 아무도 모른다 (영제 Nobody Knows, 일: daremoshiranai)는 어머니가 떠난후 동경의 한아파트에서 살아가는 4남매의 이야기를 다루고 있다.

12세란 어린 나이이지만 듬직한 후쿠시마 아키라. 어쩌면 그가 믿음직 스러웠기에 어머니인 게이코가 그렇게 쉽게 떠나갈수 있었지 않았을까 쉽기도 하다. 아키라역을 맏은 야기라 유야, 둘째 교코역의 키타우라 아유, 그리고 학교라는 단체에서 4남매와 크게 다르지않게 외소당한 사키역을 맏은 하나에 칸까지 모두 뛰어난 연기력을 보여주었다고 느꼈다. 특히 칸 영화제에서 최연소 주연상을 받았다는 야기라 유야의 연기는 마치 다큐멘타리를 보는 기분이 들정도로 멋지게 아키라 역을 소화해냈다. 철없는 시게루와 유코를 사랑하는 아키라와 쿄코... 어머니가 돌아 오지않을것을 알고도 분노도 슬픔도 삼킨채 동생들과의 삶을 이어가는 아키라 두개의 다른 필채를 조용히 홀로 바라보며 안으로 삭이는 쿄코의 모습은 울음을 짜내기 보다는 마음한구석을 아리게 한다.

아키라, 교코, 시게루, 그리고 유코를 버리고 간 후쿠시마 게이코는 영화 안에서 마음편히 있었을까.
한국에 돌아 가게되면 멋진 C군을 보고싶다.

Understanding Antilock Brakes
Antilock brakes help drivers maintain steering control during hard braking. All current and most past Acura models are equipped with antilock brakes. Not only do they work differently, they're used differently, too.
Difference From Conventional Brakes When pushed hard, conventional brakes may cause wheels to lock up, making the steering ineffective. In contrast, an antilock braking system (ABS) allows drivers to continue steering while braking so they can maneuver around objects. An electronic control unit senses when a wheel is approaching lock up and intermittently reduces pressure several times a second. The process is much like that of pumping conventional brakes, but faster and better.
ABS Operation The ABS emergency braking technique is different from that used with conventional brakes. During hard or severe braking conditions, drivers with ABS should press hard on the brake pedal and not let up. This is known as "stomp and steer". Sometimes an ABS creates noise and causes the brake pedal to vibrate when the system is activated. Don't take your foot off the brake pedal if this happens. This is a normal occurrence, and your ABS is functioning properly.
Antilock Brakes Do's and Don'ts
If you have antilock brakes, or are considering buying a vehicle that has them, use them properly! In severe braking situations with antilock brakes, remember:
Climate Control
Your Acura is equipped with a state-of-the-art climate control system that makes traveling comfortable year-round, regardless of the weather. Here are some of the subjects of inquiry many drivers have regarding their climate control systems:
Controlling the source of air
The Recirculation Button controls the source of the air going through your climate control system. When in the Recirculation Mode, air from the vehicle's interior is re-circulated through the system. Use this Recirculation Mode when driving through smoky or dusty conditions, or when you need maximum A/C cooling. Keeping the system in the Recirculation Mode, however, especially with the A/C off, can cause the windows to fog.
Source of outside air coming into the vehicle
Air intakes for both heating and cooling are at the base of the windshield. Keep these clear of leaves and other debris for better operation.
Air exit locations
After circulating the air through the interior, the flow-through ventilation system exhausts it through vents near the rear window.
Cooling down vehicle after it's been sitting in the sun
Start the engine and push the A/C Button to turn on the A/C. Make sure the temperature control lever is all the way to the left. Set the fan to maximum speed. Open the windows partially and select Recirculation Mode. Once the cool air has replaced the warm air, close the windows, switch to Fresh Air Mode and turn the fan to the desired setting.
Air conditioning noise in engine
Air conditioning places an extra load on the engine, especially when driving in stop-and-go traffic or climbing a long, steep hill. You may hear a noise when your compressor engages, but there is nothing wrong with the engine. If any noise does concern you, contact your Acura dealer.
Making the interior dryer and warmer
Use the air-conditioning and heating at the same time. As it cools, the A/C draws moisture out of the air. When used with the heater, it makes the interior dryer and warmer. This procedure works whenever the outside temperature is above 32 degrees Fahrenheit.
Removing fog from windows
Switch on the fan, the defroster, and the A/C. Adjust the temperature control so the air flow from the defroster feels warm. Turn on the rear window defogger.
Removing frost and ice from the windshield exterior
Start the engine and select defrost. Switch the fan and temperature controls to the maximum. To rapidly remove exterior frost or ice from the windshield, first select the Recirculation Mode. Once the windshield is clear, select the Fresh Air Mode to avoid fogging the windows. The air will get warmer and clear the windows faster as the engine warms up. Once the windows clear, close the side vents with the dial beside each vent. This will send more air to the windshield defroster vents. For safety, make sure you have a clear view through all the windows before driving away.
Caring for the A/C system
Run the air conditioning at least once a week during the cold weather months. Run it for at least ten minutes while driving at a steady speed with the engine at normal operating temperature. This circulates the lubricating oil contained in the refrigerant. In cold weather, never turn the fan off except during the first few minutes of operation. Your climate control system will work best if you keep air circulating.
Maintenance Minder™ System
The Maintenance Minder™ system monitors the car’s need for service and notifies the driver of maintenance needs by displaying a message on the instrument panel during start-up. 그들은 꿈도 영어로 꾸겠지
예전에 읽었던 어느 이의 글에는 미국인들은 '꿈도 영어로 꾸겠지'라고 써있었고 크게 웃었던 기억이 있다. 새로운 것은 아니지만 한국인의 영어교육 열풍은 시간이 아무리 지나도 식을줄을 모른다. 한국어의 우수성을 강조하고 미국을 꼬집으면서도 영어만큼은 한국인의 크립토나이트가 아닌가쉽다.
들풀님의 얼음집 포스팅 미국 사람은 영어를 잘 할까을 재미있게 읽었는데 나 역시 자주 궁금해하던 내용이 알닐수 없다.
들풀님과는 조금다른게 '미국사람은 영어를 잘 할까' 보다는 '...잘 알까' 가 궁금했지만...
학교마다 다르겠지만 내가 다닌 주립대 역시 전교생 모두 exit exam이라고해서 간단한 영어 수학 문제를 졸업전에 쳐야 했는데, 뭘 준비해 가야 할 줄도 몰랐다가 시험문제를 보곤 '지금 장난하나' 했던 기억이 떠올랐다. 하지만 인종을 떠나 미국에서 태어났거나 어릴때 와서 초중고를 다닌 친구들의 시험 후의 말, 특히 영어 문법 섹션에서 힘들었다는 고백을 듣고 흠칫한 기억도 난다.
영어를 아는 것과 하는 것에는 조금은 큰차이가 있지않나 싶은 생각이다. 나의 경험으로는 미국인들 대부분이 글을 쓸때 문법보다는 말하는 대로 쓰는 듯 하다. 대학시절 글을 잘쓰기로 소문난 친구들조차 명사 동사를 제외하고는 형용사 부사 전치사등등이 뭔지도 상관을 안한다는 사실에 놀란적이 있다. 그들은 모두 한결같이 말하는 데로 글을 쓰지 문법에 관여하지 않는다는 사실을 별스럽지 않게 밝혔고. 게다가 단어 역시 모르는 단어가 나오면 사전을 뒤지거나 뜻을 알고 읽으려기보다는 앞뒤 문맥을 보고 단어의 뜻을 넘겨짚는다는 고백에 더더욱 놀란적이 있다. 그들이나 나역시 단어의 양에는 크게 차이가 없었다, 오히려 문법이나 특수단어에는 내가 더낳았다고 해도 틀리진 않을것이다. 그럼에도 나와는 달리 그친구들 모두 영어를 하며 사는데에 전혀 불편함이 없고 (당연히) 심지어는 영어/작문 수업에서도 우수한 성적을 내던 것이 기억이난다. 영어를 아는것에는 한국의 유학생들이나 이민학생들이 뛰어났지만 하는데에는 차이가 있었던것같다.
미국에서의 영어교육은 문법이나 회화(국어니 당연히)보다는 읽고 내용을 바르게 이해하고 자신의 생각을 말과 글로 나타내는것을 더욱 중요시 하는것 같다는 것이 내생각인데, 중학시절 이후엔 학교에서 문법에대해 수업을 받은 기억이 없기때문이다. 모든것이 읽고 이해하고 생각하고 표현하는데에 포커즈가 맞추어졌지 왜 여기선 이 전치사를 저 부사를 써양하는지는 누구도 강조한 기억이 없다. 한국과는 크게 다르지않은가.
누군가 문법 백날 해봐야 회화 한마디 제대로 하기 힘들다고 꼬집었는데 크게 틀린말은 아닌듯 쉽다.
들풀님은 '언어를 바르게 쓰는 것은 많은 독서나 글짓기와 같은 훈련의 결과입니다. 이것은 체계적인 교육의 산물이지 저절로 얻어지는 것이 아닙니다'라고 쓰셨는데 크게 공감했다. 조금 덧붙이자면 회화 역시 훈련의 결과가 아닐까. 정말이지 '바르게' 쓰는 언어란 쉽지 않기 때문이다.
나에겐 한국에서 수업시간에 배운 영어는 솔직히 미국와선 크게 도움이 되질 못했다. 짝사랑에 연애편지는 30,000통도 써봤지만 여자앞에서는 아무것도 못하는 숫기없는 소년의 무용마냥 한국의 영어 교육은 결국 양키같이 영어 말하기같은 영어 교육보다는 '영어 회화'잘하기에대한 일그러진 동경의 노력은 아닌가 생각 해본다.
가끔은 아내에게 우리 아이들은 나중에 한국어를 할 수있을까 라고 묻곤 하는데 들풀님의 글을읽곤 잠시 이미 조금씩 일어버리고 있는 한국어 난 얼마나 잘할수 있을까 라는 기분도 든다.

I guess it is okay with government uses tax dollar to run their vehicles,
but, question one, how'd they know if gas card is used only for state-issued vehicles, hmmm suspicious
question two, how they regulate spending if it is unlimited, is there any restriction?
question three, how such a CA exclusive absurd law passed?
question four... man, I should stop grumbling here...

LPGA English Mandate
ABSURD!!! A true definition of absurdity, indeed.
and I thought golf is an individual sport; if it was a team sport, still, may be. IMO let the best man, in this case, the woman play the sport.
Wouldn't US constitution support that an equal opportunity should be given regardless of age, gender, race, and religion and shall never taken away for those reasons? Then, it would do so about the language!
Since when players are REQUIRED to communicate with fans via verbal language only? They still communicate and inspire fans, viewers, and other competitors through their skill, ability, and mental mindset.
Did MJ make that amazing buzzer beater at the championship saying fans here comes the shot? Every time Brat Favre take the hit and still complete the bullet train to WRs what does he need to explain to us? And isn't Kobe still the most popular one in China among all athletes, basketball or not, and Chinese or non-Chinese speaking all combine? And I bet most foreign LPGA tour golfers speak better English than Kobe ever speak Chinese!
Some says the golf is a gentleman's sport. For sure it is not an elegant-lady's sport. It again proves to be another business and political pigs muddy play ground.

10년 살아도 못배우는 영어라니
한국은 이미 실행되고 있을지도 모르겠지만 정보통신이 생각보다 아시아나 유럽에 한참 뒤쳐진 이곳 북미는 디지탈 TV의 변화가 최근에나 일고 있다. 그이유는 다름아닌 내년인 2009년 2월에 현재까지의 아나로그 방식의 방송신호가 끊기기 때문인데 그렇게되면 기존의 TV로 시청을 하기는 불가능해진다.
TV를 바꾸지않고 시청을 계속 하기위해선 디지탈 신호를 아나로그 신호로 바꾸어주는 신호 변화기가 필요한데, 현재 정부에서는 한집에 최고 2대의 신호 변화기를 살수있는 쿠폰을 나누어 주고 있다. 각 쿠폰은 $40어치로 전자매장에서 신호 변화기를 사면 해당 기기에 따라 $40까지 할인을 받을수 있다.
한참 즐겨보던 케이블을 보내고, 아내님과 디지탈 TV를 보기 시작한 우리는 36개가 넘는 채널과 2개의 한국방송 (MBC, KBS)를 즐기고 있다. 깨끗한 HD quality 고화질, 음향은 물론 뉴스와 일기예보 채널역시 마음에 든다.
부모님 역시 좋아하실거란 생각에 쿠폰을 대신 신청해 드렸는데 아무래도 설정에 조금 애를 먹고 계신듯 하다. Insignia가 Best Buy에 납품을 하는 한국 회사라고 들었는데 한국어 설명서도 곁들여 주었으면 얼마나 좋았을까 한다.
주말동안 시간이 남에 설명서를 한국어로 번역해 부모님께 보내 들였지만, 내가 직접 갈수 있어서 설치, 설정을 해드렸으면 얼마나 좋을까 생가해본다.
아직 한인 타운에 사시는 부모님은 미국에 온지 20년이 다되가시지만, 아직도 간단한 영어 이외에는 하시지 못하신다. 오히려 일하시는 곳과 사는 동네의 덕인지 서반어어만은 남미 한가운데 떨어 뜨려 놓으셔도 별탈없으실 정도로 수월히 구사하신다. 아마도 한국에 가실일이 생기시면 친구, 친척분들은 이민을 남미로 가셨다고 착각하시기 딱이겠다.
중학교때 처음 만난 L군과 K군은 무려 유치원, 국민학교 시절에 미국에 왔음에도 불구하고 각각 전라도, 경상도 사투리의 억양이 섞인 영어를 해 같은 한국인은 물론 코쟁이들도 알아들을수 없을 희한한 영어를 구사해 친구들 사이에서 흔히 '구라치지말고 솔직히 말에 너희들 온지 얼마 안됐지?"라는 농담을 자주 듣곤 했다.
아직도 친하게 지내는 또다른 K군은 무려 4살때 왔음에도 현재 영어를 완벽히 못하는데 한인 타운에 사는 그는 한국어외에는 영어를 거의 쓰지않고 자라와서 아직도 영어가 불편한 케이스다. 놀랍게도 자라오며 이런 친구들을 많이도 만나왔다.
어떻게 이런것이 가능할까? 처음 이민을 왔을때 주위분들이 부모님께 아이들 영어 빨리 가르치려거든 한인타운에서 벗어 나라고 하셨는데 그것이 어느 정도는 사실이라 믿는다. 학교 수업말고는 한국친구들과 어울려 한국말, 한국책, 한국음악, 한국방송등을 시청하고 자라선 영어가 늘지 않는다. 한국에서 고교때까지 6년간 영어를 배웠음에도 영어회화가 어색할수 밖에 없는 이유는 영어와 한국어가 너무나도 다르기 때문일거고, 또 자주 쓰지 않기 때문이겠다.
예전에 미국에 살아도 한인타운, 특히 서부지역에서도 Los Angeles의 한인타운에 거주하는 한국인들은 10년 20년 살아봐야 영어를 배울수 없다고 한말을 들은 적이 있었는데 그말이 틀린 말은 아니다.
어떤 한국인들은 미국에 백인 흑인들만 사는줄 아는 듯한 말을 곧잘 인터넷에서 접할수 있는데, 사실 LA의 한인 타운 같은 경우 일상의 99%는 한국어 만으로도 아무 불편함없이 살아갈수 있는 곳이 이 미국이기도 하다.
어찌보면 불편한 삶이기도 하다만, 한인 타운이 아닌 외국인들에게 둘려쌓여 자랐다면, 지금 이렇게 한글로 블로그를 할수있고, 최민호, 박태환의 금메달에, 한국 양궁에 자부심을, 그리고 아쉽지만 훌륭히 싸운 왕기춘, 남현희 선수에게 긍지를 느낄수 있을까 쉽다.
