ROP (Retinopathy of Prematurity)

Reinopathy of Prematurity (ROP) is a retinal detachment of premature babies. It is 2' to abnormal blood vessel development and was often found c/ pt. who received high O2 dose for RDS or other pulmonary dzs tx. Currently, c/ proper O2 delivery monitoring, risk of ROP due to O2 tx is rare.

Retinal blood vessel development begins at 2nd trimester (30d post-conception); newborns a/ 30 wk gestational age & c/ RDS is in high risk of ROP.

Tx should begin immediately (p/ 72hr) and detachment may require surg. intervention.
